Assigning Costs to Packaging Materials and Boxes

Add costs to non-sellable items for more accurate per shipment visibility in the Coldcart portal

The following steps outline how to add per unit cost to your packaging materials such as: Liners, Inserts, Dry Ice and Gel Packs as well as how to add a per unit cost for your shipping Boxes.

Adding Costs for Packaging Materials

After setting up your items in the Product Catalog, scroll to the bottom of the Items header to the section where Non-sellable items are displayed:

Click an individual non-sellable item from the list to reveal more item details on the righthand sidebar. Next, click the Set Cost button to assign a value to this item:

Enter the value you'd like to represent this item in the Fulfillment Cost field, then click Assign Cost at the bottom of the sidebar:

Assign Costs for Shipping Boxes

Instead of Items, click Shipping Boxes from the list of headers on the Product Catalog page.

From the list of created Shipping Boxes, click the individual box you'd like to assign a cost to:

Follow the same steps as outlined in the previous section to assign this box a cost:

  • Click Set Cost from the righthand sidebar

  • Enter a value in the Fulfillment Cost field

  • Click Assign Cost

TIP: Including the costs of all non-sellable items in the Coldcart Portal will provide you with valuable insights into your unit economics and allows the system to optimize fulfillment center and carrier service selection based on total shipment cost.
